In this oil on canvas created by Khalid Al-Rahal, the sense of the natural world is abstracted and turned upside down. The ambiguous setting gives the viewer a sense of uneasiness or lack of place. The human forms seem huddled together in a small mass in the center of the painting, and are represented in a nondescript manner. The color palette reads from very cool around the periphery of the painting, to a rusty glow in the center. The use of dappled brush work creates texture in the work.
