Portrait of a Woman in Outline and Color

Like Aljanabi’s completely abstracted pieces, this unconventional portrait focuses on the formal qualities of line and color as it overemphasizes the shape of the woman’s garments and fabricates the color palette of the environment. Although the focus here is on aesthetics, the woman with her basket of fruit indicates a cultural meaning whereas a total abstraction would lack such significance.
