In this composition, by Mahoud Ahmad, a nude female figure lies awake on a rug weaved with vibrant color patterns of reds, greens, and yellows. The woman gazes at something beyond the picture plane and is marked with enigmatic shapes on her lower abdomen and across her exposed thigh. A large lit lantern sits at the female’s feet illuminating the forefront of the composition whilst leaving the sleeping male figure in the background bathed in shadow.
