The central figures in this scene are placed on a sandy shore with a boat floating expectantly in the middle ground. The boat bolsters a male figure who waits with arms crossed. In the foreground a child, who stands with her weeping mother, holds out a doll while a man wearing khaki fatigues accepts it. A pale orange horizon line that is contrasted with the dark blue of the sea accentuates the background.
